FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – A wanted man was captured after his unregistered vehicle caught the attention of local law enforcement.

According to a media release posted on the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Facebook page, the incident occurred Monday, December 4th.

At approximately 11:50 p.m., a SCSO deputy was stopped at the Butler Road Wawa convenience store when he observed a vehicle with an inactive registration.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Johnny Michael Martin, Jr.of Fredericksburg.

According to the release, Martin, 40, admitted his license was suspended and that he had two prior convictions for driving while suspended. However, he failed to mention that he was also wanted out of Stafford County for a probation violation with underlying charges of possession of controlled substances. After the deputy obtained this information, Martin was placed under arrest.

In a search conducted during the traffic stop, the SCSO deputy found suspected controlled substances on Martin’s person and discovered additional suspected controlled substances within his vehicle. He was also in possession of a pink stun gun – an item considered illegal in the hands of a convicted felon.

Martin was charged with possession of controlled substances, possession of controlled paraphernalia, weapon possession by a convicted felon, and driving while suspended. He was additionally served on his outstanding warrant.

According to online court records, Martin’s early 2022 charges included Drugs, possession of schedule I or !!;  Drugs: Possession of schedule III, and Unauthorized possession: drug paraphernalia. In October 2022, he was sentenced to one year and six months in jail, with one year and six months suspended.

He is currently being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
