Pop star Lana Del Rey is going country with her new album Lasso . While praising Jack Antonoff at the Billboard X NMPA Songwriter Awards Party, Del Rey said, “If you can’t tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country. We’re going country. It’s happening. That’s why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville and Mississippi, over the last four years.”

We can expect Del Rey’s first country album, produced by Antonoff, to be released in September.

Del Rey has had a fascination with country music, covering songs like “Stand By Your Man” by Tammy Wynette, and John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads”.

Antonoff has proven to be a force in the music industry with eight Grammys and a chance to win six more at the 66th annual Grammys in Los Angeles this coming Sunday, February 4th. This year’s nomination for Producer of the Year marks Antonoff’s fifth consecutive nomination, an honor which Del Rey says is “anything but luck.” If he wins on Sunday, he will become only the second producer to win the award three years in a row.

While Antonoff has dipped his toes into country music by producing The Chicks’ 2020 album, Gaslighter, he has typically stayed in the pop and alternative spaces, working with artists like Taylor Swift, Lorde, Florence and the Machine, and The 1975.

Antonoff and Del Rey’s fateful meeting at a 2018 pre-Grammy resulted in a successful studio partnership. Del Rey recounts their meeting and said Antonoff was “born under one of those talent, lucky musical stars,” then further praised him as “one in a million.” Lasso will be her 10th studio LP and third in the past four years; it will follow last year’s album Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd , which received five Grammy nods.

Look forward to hearing Del Rey and Antonoff’s undoubtedly unique spin on country music this upcoming September.
