Peyton Manning Wants To Coach Olympic Flag Football

The NFL and the Olympic Games have rarely crossed paths before, but that will change in 2028.

After a long campaign, the 2028 Summer Olympics will feature flag football for the first time in the event's storied history. Since the official announcement last fall, NFL players far and wide have expressed their desire to compete in the Olympics with hopes of bringing home a gold medal.

Even former NFL stars want to get in on the action, but as coaches rather than players. Speaking to reporters Saturday at the Pro Bowl Games in Orlando, Florida, Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning said he would love to help lead the team when the 2028 Olympics roll around. He even snuck in a friendly jab at his brother and fellow former NFL star Eli Manning.

"Well there's no way Eli's gonna be able to coach because I'd be the one coaching, so I mean he can watch, he can watch us win," Peyton Manning said. "I'm excited for flag football at the Olympics, and obviously a great week going on here with flag football championships, this is an exciting time.

"But yeah, I know a lot of [players], I heard Tyreek [Hill] say he wants to try to make it, so it could be a competitive time for people trying to make it to the olympic team. But that's exciting, and to debut in Los Angeles is even cooler."

The Manning brothers, who are now hosting the Monday Night Football "Manningcast" in their post-playing days, are getting a head start on their flag football coaching resumes at this weekend's Pro Bowl Games, with Peyton leading the AFC team and Eli the NFC team in Sunday's 7-on-7 flag football match.

Both brothers will also have some star-studded coordinators by their side. Peyton has Wes Welker and Ray Lewis as his offensive and defensive coordinator, respectively, while Eli has Keenan McCardell and DeMarcus Ware at the same positions.

The Olympic debut of flag football is still several years away, but with Peyton likely not going anywhere any time soon, there's little doubt he'll still be just as interested when that time comes around.
