Have you ever pondered this profound truth: you, personally, are the cherished recipient of divine love?

If you are a redeemed child of God, then this statement is not just a general truth but a personal reality. You are the focus of divine love. This theme resonates throughout the pages of Scripture. God moved heaven and earth to demonstrate His love for you and me.

One of the scriptures that vividly illustrates that humanity is the object of divine love is found in 1 John 4:9. It proclaims that God’s love was shown to us by His sending His only Son, Jesus, into the world so that we might have life through Him. In fact, 1 John 2:2 remind us that God gave us His best, His beloved son, as a propitiation for our sins. This act of appeasing God, making things right between us and God, is a testament to His immense love for us.

In the beginning, God created everything and called it good. After finishing the creation, He deemed everything he made, according to Genesis 1:31, as “very good.” However, Adam and Eve’s disobedience led to sin and separation. Despite this, God continued to love them and immediately made a rescue plan to restore intimate fellowship with His creation.

Why did God do this? Because you are the object of divine love.

There is a hymn whose origins are unknown, and one of its verses perfectly captures the idea of being the recipient of divine love: “Pause, my soul, adore and wonder: Ask, ‘Oh, why such love to me?’ Grace hath put me in the number of the Savior’s family: Hallelujah! Thanks, Eternal thanks to Thee!”

Of all the love you could ever receive, none can compare to the love that God has for you. And of all the love you could ever give, even your most generous amount would still be less than a single drop in the vastness of God’s love for you. Remember, you are not just a creation but a beloved child of God. Yes, you! God’s love for you is immeasurable and unending.

As 1 John 4:19 notes, humanity was not created to love God but rather to be loved by Him. All things were created for His pleasure so that we may become objects of His divine love through Christ. C.S. Lewis once said, “In God there is no hunger that needs to be filled, only plenteousness that desires to give ... God, who needs nothing, loves into existence wholly superfluous creatures in order that He may love and perfect them.”

Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us that the steadfast love of God never ceases. His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness. The word “faithfulness” means that God is always there for you. He hears you when you call upon Him, He sees you, and you can cast all your worries on Him. This constant presence and love from God assures us that those who trust in Him will never be disappointed.

This Valentine’s Day, remember you are the apple of God’s eye. You are the object of divine love.
