STAFFORD COUNTY, Va.— A Stafford man is behind bars after leading two separate agencies on a high-speed chase.

According to a media release from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), the incident occurred on February 19, 2024.

At approximately 6:36 p.m. an SCSO deputy was in the area of Richmond Highway and Washington Drive when he heard a radio request for assistance from an Aquia Harbour Police Department (AHPD) officer. Aquia Harbour is a census-designated area in Stafford County, approximately 13 miles north of Fredericksburg.

The AHPD officer advised that his patrol vehicle had been struck. The suspect vehicle, a Buick Encore, had left the scene and proceeded northbound on Richmond Highway. When the suspect made a u-turn at Coachman Circle, the SCSO deputy joined the pursuit.

The chase continued onto Garrisonville Road, where the fleeing motorist proceeded to drive his vehicle over the median strip, blowing out a tire. The driver again attempted to flee, but the flat tire brought the vehicle to a stop in front of the former Pizza Hut at 2883 Richmond Highway. The male suspect quickly held his hands out the window in a posture of surrender,

A preliminary investigation revealed that prior to the SCSO chase, Aquia Harbour Police attempted to stop the Encore for speeding. Instead of complying, the suspect sped through a red light, struck a civilian’s vehicle, struck an AHPD vehicle, and continued to flee.

AHPD charged driver William Robert Weber, 38, with two counts of reckless driving. SCSO charged him with felony hit and run and felony eluding.

Within the media release and court records, there is no indication that the subject was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. No injuries were reported.

Weber is being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

According to online court records, his first court appearance is scheduled for February 22.
