DESTREHAN, La. — St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church is extending an open invitation to the community for its annual St. Joseph Altar event, hosted by the St. Joseph Altar Society. This venerable tradition, steeped in rich cultural heritage, is set to honor Saint Joseph, the patron saint of workers and protector of the church.
The event will commence in the Borromeo Room on Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM, following the blessing of the altar, which is scheduled after the 7:30 AM Mass. Attendees are welcome to gather for the blessing at 8:30 AM, marking the beginning of the festivities.
The St. Joseph Altar, an integral part of this spiritual and communal gathering, is a tribute to the saint’s relief efforts during a famine in Sicily. Today, it symbolizes unity, gratitude, and the sharing of blessings. Visitors can expect a tableau adorned with baked goods, flowers, and religious symbols, creating a visual and spiritual feast.
The altar will reopen on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, providing additional time for prayer, reflection, and community engagement. During both days, attendees can participate in the time-honored tradition of receiving cookies, candles, and other items that have been blessed, available for a donation. These contributions go towards supporting the church and its charitable activities.
