Virginia State Police seek driver who caused horrific crash

ORANGE COUNTY, Va. –  Virginia State Police (VSP) are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying a vehicle that caused a two-vehicle crash on Monday.

According to a media release from VSP Sergeant Brent W. Coffey, the incident happened on Constitution Hwy (Route 20) at Rhoades Road on March 4, 2024.

At approximately 5:50 a.m., an unknown vehicle was traveling west on Route 20 when it attempted to pass a vehicle that stopped to make a left turn. 

As the unknown vehicle attempted the pass in the eastbound lane, it caused an eastbound 1999 Ford Ranger to run off the right side of the roadway. As a result, the Ford overcorrected, crossed the center line, and collided with a westbound 2020 Dodge Ram utility van.

The driver of the Ford, a 23-year-old male from Orange, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the crash.He was transported to UVA Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

A passenger in the Ford, a 20-year-old female, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Mary Washington Hospital for treatment. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Ram, a 41-year-old male of Fredericksburg, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Mary Washington Hospital for treatment. He was wearing a seatbelt.

Three adult passengers in the Ram suffered minor injuries and were transported to Mary Washington Hospital for treatment. All three had been wearing seatbelts.

The crash remains under investigation.
