After his Seattle Kraken had beaten the Flames 4-2 Monday, coach Dave Hakstol summed up the reckless play of Calgary's Martin Pospisil in one word.

    "Garbage."

Apparently the NHL Department of Player Safety agrees.

Pospisil's late-game ramming of Vince Dunn's head into the glass was his second dangerous and irresponsible play.

Ten seconds into Monday's game at Scotiabank Saddledome, the Calgary winger mashed Seattle defenseman Adam Larsson into the side boards.

Note that the Flames official social media account actually celebrated a player getting smashed head-first into the boards. More about that in a separate post.

Editor's Note: Flames social media removed the post Tuesday afternoon. It's been replaced with video from another account.

Larsson, thankfully, remained healthy enough to play a team-high 23:44. Even sweeter, in the 3rd period he scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal.

Prior to that, teammate Tye Kartye let Pospisil know just how much the Kraken didn't appreciate the treatment of their top-pairing D-man.

Pospisil, who had to know this was coming, took the beating without dropping his gloves.

Hakstol didn't think much of Pospisil not standing up for himself. "You're going to run around like that, you probably need to answer when somebody (Kartye) comes at you, and that didn't happen."

Meanwhile, Dunn's noggin had already taken a beating. From my game story : "Vince Dunn deflects an Andrei Kuzmenko shot painfully into the side of his head. On the bench, Dunn checks to see if his right ear is still attached (it is)."

The worst was yet to come. Here's the dangerous hit by Pospisil which earned him a five minute major, ejection, and invitation from the NHL DoPS.

As of this writing, it's unclear whether Dunn will be able to suit up for Tuesday's Kraken game in Winnipeg.

Matty Beniers and then Brandon Tanev came to Dunn's defense. Calgary's Blake Coleman was on the receiving end of Tanev's ire.

Hakstol said later, "I thought both hits were about as bad as it gets."

In our next post , the sadly predictable reactions from much of Calgary media.
