    Prep sports recap for March 8, 2024

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Normal Community will play for its first boys basketball state title on Saturday night.

    The Ironmen beat Palatine, 58-38, in the class 4A state semifinals Friday at State Farm Center. Braylon Roman had 19 points and Jaheem Webber added 15 points and 12 rebounds for Normal Community, which improved to 32-5 on the season.

    Richwoods finished third in the class 3A boys basketball tournament. The Knights beat Mt. Zion, 62-50, in the third place game Friday night.

    Lathan Sommerville scored 22 points and Daquan Little added 16 for the Knights, who finished the year 30-5 and earned their first trip to state since 2010.

    Chicago DePaul College Prep beat Richwoods, 52-41, in the state semifinal earlier in the day. The Rams advanced to play Chicago Mount Carmel in the 3A title game Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
