'We Trudge On!' Ryan Leaf Shuts Down Draft Day Troll

An online troll wilted when trying to jab former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf.

Leaf is often referred to as one of the biggest busts in NFL history but has hardly been hesitant to poke fun at himself for his brief professional journey. When an X user tried to bring Leaf's infant daughter into the narrative this week, the former passer showcased his self-deprecating humor in flawless form.

"She’s 14 weeks, she’ll find out, there are a******s like you everywhere eager to shout it from the basements," Leaf said. "I think the being a drug addict and 7-time convicted felon may be the harder conversation, but we trudge on!"

The exchange on X started when a different user figured that Leaf "LOVED to take receipts when he was in the league," a theory that Leaf denied but perhaps regretted, claiming he could "talked a lot of s***." The troll made his first appearance shortly after, inquiring as to why Leaf would be searching his own name on the app, leading to another humorously explicit reply.

"Baby is taking her 11 am nap, I finished my work, and it’s draft time," Leaf said. "So I know a bunch of dumb f**** are talking shit and I’m the righteous hand of Busts to lay a reckoning down upon thee, until my baby girl wakes up, which she just may have."

The lead-up to the NFL Draft is often a trying time for Leaf's mentions on social media considering his status as one of the event's most notorious washouts. Drafted second by the San Diego Chargers in 1998 (chosen one pick after Peyton Manning ), poor play and a bad attitude limited Leaf's career to 25 NFL games before he returned to the headlines for several legal issues years after.

To his credit, Leaf has turned his life around, remaining sober for over 12 years and fathering two children, MacGyver and Claiborne. Leaf has also worked in various sobriety programs and also serves as a college football analyst on SiriusXM and Westwood One. Responded to a more well-intentioned user, Leaf said the biggest factor in turning his life around was "service to others."
