Voters in Minnesota House District 27B voted overwhelmingly for Bryan Lawrence over DFLer Brad Brown in a General Special Election on March 19.

The Republican-endorsed Lawrence garnered 1,752 votes or nearly 85% of the vote. Challenger Brown got 319 votes or less than 16% of the vote.

“It is an extreme honor to be elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives, and I want to thank the people of House District 27B for this incredible opportunity,” Lawrence said. “Our campaign worked hard to speak with thousands of voters in Sherburne, Mille Lacs, Isanti and Anoka counties to learn the issues of importance to them, and the overwhelming vote of confidence they gave our campaign is proof those conversations were productive.”

As of 7 a.m. on March 19 there were 28,505 registered voters in House District 27B.

Lawrence is a Township Supervisor and longtime Baldwin Township resident. He and his wife of 28 years, Marytina, reside on a Sherburne County family farm where they raise beef cattle. Lawrence also assists in managing two other family businesses including a home heating oil delivery business and a sod business.

“I am excited to take this next step in my public service career, and pledge to serve our families, farmers, small business owners and communities with the dedication and commitment they deserve,” Lawrence said.

Lawrence’s government experience includes serving on the Baldwin Township board for over 20 years, including as board chair. During his tenure, he has assisted in the development of a volunteer fire department and is currently involved in the process of city incorporation for Baldwin Township.

Additionally, Lawrence has served as chairman of Sherburne County Planning & Zoning, and as a member of County Board of Adjustment and County Waste Management Committees.

House 27B includes part of Isanti County as well as sections of Anoka, Mille Lacs and Sherburne counties, including the city of Zimmerman.

Lawrence becomes the replacement for former Rep. Kurt Daudt, who resigned on Jan. 10 effect Feb. 11 — the day before the start of the 2024 session of the Minnesota Legislature.

Daudt has also served as state representative for District 27A from 2011-2013 and District 31A from 2013-2023. His last term marked his seventh in his political career.
