Take a peek: Brodeto will open in the Raleigh Iron Works development on Friday

Brodeto , the highly anticipated Croatian restaurant from Raleigh's James Beard-nominated chef Scott Crawford, opens Friday.

Why it matters: Brodeto is the first of several new restaurants set to open by the acclaimed chef, whose restaurants Crawford & Son and Jolie are among the most popular in Raleigh.

    • It is also the flagship restaurant for the recently finished Raleigh Iron Works development — which features hundreds of apartments and several restaurants, shops and offices.

Dig in: Brodeto's menu explores dishes found throughout homes along the Adriatic Sea (one of Crawford's favorite places to visit and conduct culinary research) — including squid ink risotto and Croatian lamb peka.

    • The restaurant itself is named after a fish stew that is popular in Croatia.
    • Crawford's menu includes small plates, like sardine toast and coal-roasted mussels, pastas and rice dishes, and seafood and meat entrees, like a whole roasted branzino and a wood-roasted pork chop.
    • Desserts include olive oil cake and house-made gelato.

What they're saying: "This is a dream project — and another very personal restaurant for me — to be recreating the flavorful, ingredient-driven coastal cooking my family and I fell in love with on the Adriatic Coast," Crawford said in a statement.

Location: 2201 Iron Works Dr., Raleigh

    Hours: Daily, 5pm-10pm
