    Celtics vs Pelicans

With just three NBA games on Saturday, it’s not hard to pick out the one between the Boston Celtics and the New Orleans Pelicans as the best one on the schedule. Naturally, this is a tough game to handicap, but not for the reasons you might think. The Celtics have already secured the top seed in the Eastern Conference, so their motivation is up for debate. That’s been evident in back-to-back losses to the Hawks this week despite being a double-digit favorite in both games.

The Pelicans, meanwhile, are riding high after a home win over the Bucks on Thursday. They would love to immediately take down another Eastern Conference powerhouse. With Thursday’s win, New Orleans is now 10-3 in March, going 8-4-1 against the spread in those games. While it’s easy to back the Pelicans on the basis of the Celtics wanting to take things easy down the stretch. But the truth is that New Orleans is playing great basketball right now and is poised to keep it going, making the Pelicans a great pick in this game regardless of the spread.

    Clemson vs Alabama

Rather than playing for a football national championship, a spot in the Final Four is on the line Saturday when the Clemson Tigers face the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Tigers have already taken out the no. 2 and no. 3 seeds in the West Region while the Crimson Tide knocked out top-seeded North Carolina on Thursday night. For what it’s worth, the Tigers beat the Tide earlier this season, although Alabama is the one favored by three points for Saturday’s showdown.

Perhaps surprisingly, Alabama’s defensive shortcomings haven’t come back to haunt the tide yet. But that could always change against a strong defensive team like Clemson that’s the opposite of the Crimson Tide. Alabama allowed 96 points in the First Round and Charleston and 87 points against North Carolina but managed to survive. Meanwhile, the Tigers have a balanced offensive attack but can also stifle teams on the other end. Oddly enough, all three of Clemson’s wins in the tournament have come as underdogs, so now is not the time to start betting against the Tigers, who are the more complete team in this matchup.
