Giants Owner John Mara 'Would Support' First-Round QB

It appears that Daniel Jones' time as a New York Giants starting quarterback could be over sooner rather than later.

With the franchise having buyer's remorse over Jones' four-year, $160 million contract signed in 2023, there is a thought that the Giants could now try and move on from him after the 2024 season. Saving New York $22 million in cap space by being a pre-June 1 cut next offseason per Over The Cap , having a quarterback to take over would fit in nicely.

That's where this year's draft class come into it. The Giants hold the No. 6 overall pick, and Jones is losing supporters in his own organization...including owner John Mara who would support a quarterback being drafted high by the franchise.

"If they fall in love with a quarterback and believe that it's worth pick No. 6 -- or moving up -- I certainly would support that," Mara said via ESPN.com . "I know they're looking at the quarterbacks. You've seen that. They've gone to some of the pro day, we've had some of those guys in. I don't think they're even close to making a final determination yet as to which way we're going to go on that. Those discussions will happen over the next few weeks."

Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye could be within reach of New York, so too J.J. McCarthy at No. 6, which makes the franchise's potential decision an intriguing one.

The franchise took a big step back last season, due in part to Jones' injury, and now it appears that given their draft hand, a move could be made to part ways with Jones and begin the quarterback story all over again.

If the owner is on board with it, then this train is already beyond stopping, and the Giants could easily have their new franchise quarterback in just under a month's time.
