DELAVAN, Wis. — Beloit Turner’s four pitchers held Delavan-Darien to just four hits, but combined to walk nine and the Trojans’ defense committed four errors and allowed six unearned runs in an 8-5 loss in Rock Valley Conference baseball on Tuesday.

The Comets scored an unearned run on an RBI single by Neil Janssen in the first inning off Turner starter Cesar Alfaro. A double play ended the threat.

The Trojans put up five runs in the third inning, all with two outs, to take a 5-1 lead. Jayden Piccione singled and Brady Berg reached on a two-base error. They both scored on Andy Buckley’s single to left. Fernando Tillery followed with a two-run home run to right to make it 4-1. Zack Ries then doubled, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Jayden Mosley’s RBI single.

Comets starter Carter Horton settled down after that, throwing two scoreless innings before he was relieved by Jacob Huff. Horton went five innings, allowing eight hits and five unearned runs. He walked three and struck out five. Huff allowed just two hits in his two scoreless innings, walking no one and striking out one.

For Turner, Alfaro went 3 2-3 innings, exiting during the Comets’ six-run fourth inning rally. He allowed three hits and seven runs in all, but the only earned run was Janssen’s leadoff homer in the fourth. Alfaro walked six and fanned three.

Buckley came on to pitch a scoreless 1 1-3 with three strikeouts. Sam Erickson allowed a run in his 1-3 of an inning and Ries did not allow a run in his 2-3.
