The Wilsonville boys and girls track and field teams competed as the host teams of the 2024 Wilsonville Invitational on Saturday, April 13, finishing second as a team on the girls side while sophomore Liam Wilde took home first place in the boys 1500 and 3000 meters.

While Wilde was the obvious standout for the Wildcats on the boys side, the girls were led by a combination of throwers and senior jumper Caroline De La Motte.

Senior Avery DeVincenzi took first in the shot put with a toss of 38 feet, 4.25 inches, while fellow senior Helena Tyberg took third, throwing 36-9.25.

DeVincenzi also took first in the discus with a throw of 129-4, while Tyberg finished fifth with an 111-4 toss.

Meanwhile, De La Motte took first in the triple jump and second in the long jump with jumps of 36-1 and 17-6.25, respectively, while Wilsonville finished second as a team with 94.5 total points.

On the boys side, Wilde ran 4 minutes, 6.91 seconds to take first in the 1500 and 8:51.09 to take first in the 3000, leading the charge for a Wildcats group that finished ninth as a team with 38 points.

The sophomore was one of just two track athletes to finish first in two separate events on Saturday.

Wilsonville will be in action again next Tuesday, April 16, as it hosts Hood River and Centennial in a double-dual meet. Field events are set to begin at 4 p.m.
