Sam Mayer took the checkered flag at the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 at Texas Motor Speedway while adorning the Carolina Carports logo on the hood of his Chevy Camaro and his fire suit.

Mayer, of Franklin, Wisconsin, registered his first win of the year and fifth career win in NASCAR’s Xfinity Series driving for JR Motorsports, co-owned by Kelley Earnhardt Miller and her brother, former racer Dale Earnhardt Jr.

He won the race in a dramatic photo finish by a margin of two one-thousandths of a second over Ryan Sieg in the # 39 Sci Aps Ford Mustang and now sits third in the standings through eight races.

Carolina Carports signed on as Mayer’s primary sponsor for three races this season. He finished 36 with the firm on the hood in Daytona International Speedway and will have the company on the hood again when he races under the lights at the Food City 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway in September.

“Teaming up with one of the great names in racing is a testament to our commitment to excellence,” Adela Herrera of Carolina Carports said on their partnership with JR Motorsports. “We look forward to the positive impact this partnership will bring to both industries.”

“Carolina Carports is a family business much like our own,” said Earnhardt Miller. “Meeting (Herrera) and her team, it’s clear she has built her company on quality and excellence, and that makes Carolina Carports a great fit for Sam and the No. 1 team.”

“I can’t thank everyone at JR Motorsports and the folks at Carolina Carports enough. It’s great to be able to take them to Victory Lane,” Mayer said Saturday.
