Schneps Media, a news group that serves Long Island, New York City and elsewhere, has acquired Anton Media Group, a Mineola-based publisher of newspapers and magazines that focus on communities in Nassau County. The details of the sale, which was announced May 3, were not disclosed.

“We are very excited to be carrying the torch of such prestigious media outlets,” Joshua Schneps, CEO of Schneps Media, said in the announcement on the Anton Media website.

“We are looking forward to operating and investing in the business to bring readers more content across several different platforms including the newspapers, websites, email newsletters, social media channels, podcasts, video and events,” he added.

Schneps acquired Anton Media Group from Angela Anton. She has owned and operated the newspaper group since 2000, when her husband Karl Anton, Jr., died. Formerly Anton Community Newspapers, Anton Media Group has origins that date back to 1984, when Karl Anton, Jr., purchased a chain of newspapers based on Long Island’s North Shore, according to the company’s Facebook page. Angela Anton will continue as publisher of the company under Schneps.

“We thank Angela Anton for choosing us to be the stewards of her company,” Victoria Schneps, president of Schneps Media, said in the announcement. “She has built a great company with a terrific team that we very much look forward to working with.”

Long Island is home to 12 newspaper groups, with both Anton and Schneps included in that tally, according to the most recent Press Club of Long Island Media Guide.

“I couldn’t think of a better company to take over Anton Media and lead us into the future,” said Angela Anton said in the announcement about the Schnep’s acquisition. “Victoria and Joshua have demonstrated how to run a successful media company and are both dedicated to the communities they serve.”

Schneps owns nearly 100 media outlets across Long Island, New York City, Westchester, Philadelphia and southern Florida, according to the announcement. Local publications of the company, which also hosts events, include the Long Island Press, Dan’s Papers and others.

Anton publications include Port Washington News, Manhasset Press, Great Neck Record, The Roslyn News, Glen Cove/Oyster Bay Record Pilot, Syosset-Jericho Tribune, Nassau Illustrated News, Nassau Observer, Long Island Weekly, Blvd and a group of magazines across Nassau County. The company once had an estimated 17 weekly newspapers, some of which merged into the Nassau Illustrated and Nassau Observer. Schneps said it aims to bring back individual newspapers to those communities where the publications had been combined.
