In his appearance with Pat McAfee yesterday, Austin Rivers said this: ‘I could take 30 players right now in the NBA and throw them in the NFL, but You cannot take 30 NFL players and put them in the NBA five on the court. All you gotta do is catch the ball and run north or south.’
Of course McAfee defended the NFL, but oh, no, you done PISSED OFF Brian Mitchell!
“See, the problem with people like Austin Rivers is they look at the physicality on the basketball court and they think that that is really tough. That crew, they like to take off games. He’s talking about having a break after every play? They have a break most games, because they don't play defense!” Brian said. “If you're not playing defense, you got a break, and if you're not dribbling the ball and some of them are not, they just stay.”
That’s just Brian’s thought on the comment that WASN’T controversial…
“I believe that maybe five guys in the NBA probably can get into the NFL and play. I don't know if they're gonna be good, but look at Patrick Beverley - you watch him play basketball, is he really a good offensive player, or does he just play defense? I guarantee I could get some 6-foot-2 corners that will check somebody in the NBA and harass the living hell out of them,” Brian said. “There are guys that played football that were damn good in basketball, can do anything with a basketball, that could probably step over there and play.
But…
“I could just put 30 people in each one of them, and they probably won't be very effective. LeBron James is a locomotive on a damn basketball court, but Sean Taylor would have made him tuck his tail between his legs and ran his ass off the football field, and Brian Dawkins probably would have killed him, even though they're not bigger than him,” Brian said. “The difference in basketball and football is that in basketball, you look at the big guy and you get fear in your eyes, but in football, I look at the big guy and I'm gonna take his heart. That's the way we think.”
And then B with the hammer:
“A little idiot like that talking? Saying that stuff is cool, because I would say, ‘Austin, let's go play basketball, and then you gotta go and do an Oklahoma drill with my 55-year-old ass, and let's see who gonna make it.”
And one more for the road:
“You all have guaranteed contracts because your union is strong and you had some great players before you, but half of you that make the money you make, should not get a quarter of the money that you make. Let's get that straight,” B said. “Austin Rivers, he was an okay player, he wasn't no great player, but he got paid. He shouldn't have got paid, but he did because of the way the CBA is set up, just like a lot of football players today get paid because of the way the CBA is set up. But don't be fooling yourself thinking that y'all can just step on the football field. He can pump what he wants to pump, but you know what? He’s gonna run into some football players who gonna try him right there.”
