Grant Paulsen has convinced himself Commanders-Bears opening a Week 1 MNF doubleheader could happen

The NFL schedule release is next Wednesday – and that’s when we could find out the Commanders will open on (Insert Day Here) Night Football?

It won’t be the season opener, as the Chiefs will get that honor and Washington doesn’t face them, but right now, Grant has an idea that could make Week 1 look like Week 5!

“I'm just gonna remind everybody one more time that Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, when they went 1-2, played head-to-head in Week 1, so I think Bears-Commanders in Week 1 is in play,” GP said.

Of course, WAY unlike last year’s grueling matchup of 0-4 teams, GP is, like a lot of people probably are, ‘oddly curious’ about when we’ll see No. 1 vs. No. 2, Caleb vs. Jayden, Commanders vs. Bears.

“Another Thursday night game is what it feels like to me,” Danny said, but GP is feeling it and thinks that could some kind of prime-time to showcase the true new era on both teams!

“Darris shot me down yesterday on this: I said Commanders-Bears on Sunday Night Football, and he was like, ‘you fatso, shut up you idiot, I hate working here and I hate you,’” Grant said (well, actually GP made it seem a lot worse). “But what he said was they’re not gonna play on Sunday Night Football, but he had a great idea: why not Monday night Week 1? And I thought, two games, they're gonna do that old Monday night double dip, so you get a really good team on the West Coast playing. The Chiefs will be Thursday night, cross them off the list, but maybe there will be an intriguing Chargers Jim Harbaugh debut kind of late night game.”

Williams vs. Daniels and Jim Harbaugh against, say, his brother and the Ravens (which is a home game in L.A. this year) as your MNF double-dip to finish Week 1? Danny, well, he wants all 1 p.m. Sunday games for the Commanders, but otherwise…

“I’m sick to my stomach thinking about prime time games, but it actually makes a little bit of sense,” he said. ““You got the old guard, the actual really good teams, you got them kind of highlighting throughout the weekend, but that night, you got kind of the new wave like, the guys that are on deck, the next sort of generation.”

“And it’s not gonna be the A-team of Buck and Aikman, it’s gonna be like the B-team that they throw together at the last second, a patchwork group like Steve Levy and Trent Dilfer and Louis Riddick will be there,” GP responded before giving a try at what the open would look like.

Of course, Grant is also already convinced that the NFL will shaft him by putting Commanders/Saints in New Orleans in one of the two or three weeks he CAN’T take the little trip he has convinced his wife to take, so there’s also that – but who says Turkey Day or Christmas Day on Bourbon Street isn’t romantic?

We should probably ask Danny what he wants to see with the schedule release…

“I generally care about if they're gonna do the division bit where there's like just a little appetizer one early and then like the last five games are division games, or something like that like they've been doing lately,” he said.
