A link recently gained popularity on social media, titled “Harry’s Line Cam,” and brought visitors to a website with a livestream of the popular bar’s notorious waiting line from an overhead view.

    Unfortunately, it was short lived.

The individual said on social media the stream recorded from Rawls Hall on an old phone was to be taken down because they are a graduating senior. As of Thursday afternoon, the stream is no longer active, but it reached over 20,000 visitors during peak traffic, according to data obtained by the Exponent.

The individual behind the website declined an interview and said they want to remain anonymous.

Only a day after the livestream started, a Reddit post about the website featured comments like “This is genius” and “Revolutionary.”

Later, a comment from a user named “Harryslinecam” commented on the post, writing that “I’m the one who runs the stream” and that he was “amazed how much traction (the stream) has gotten.”

“I thought it was awesome,” said Sam Albert, a senior in computer engineering. “There could also be similar projects at different bars as well too.”

Other recommended spots would be Brothers, Neon Cactus or other spots during Breakfast Club.

“If I were running the website I would probably put lots of pop-up ads,” said Hollis Kammerer, a junior in aeronautical engineering.

Although Harry’s employees declined to comment on the livestream, the receptive attitude of students and bar goers might keep the idea alive.

“The purpose of this project was really meant to be a proof of concept to gauge interest in the idea of having a livestream like this and knowing when a good time to stop by Harry’s is,” said the individual who created the website. “Clearly many people enjoy having this, which is why I would love to try to continue or at least support this project after I leave with the help of those still on campus.”
