Seems the NFL just takes what it wants

Is it just me or is the NFL the Deebo of American sports? Before you call me crazy or dismiss me entirely, allow me to elaborate.

Debo is the very muscular character from Friday played by the late Tommy Lister Jr. Throughout the majority of the film, Deebo rides around the neighborhood on a bicycle he claimed as his own (aka stole) looking for other things to claim.

Even if it’s a chain you got from your Mom, he’ll just take it. If you don’t know Deebo from the movie Friday, think instead of the United Kingdom from much of the last few centuries.

What Deebo, the United Kingdom and the NFL have in common is that if they see something they want… they just gotta have it.

Last year it was Christmas. Since I was a teenager in the 90’s, the NBA played on Christmas and was thereby associated with Christmas. LeBron James has probably never spent Christmas Day with his family, at least not since he was 17 years old.

The NFL had Thanksgiving and baseball had Independence Day, but last year the NFL decided it liked and wanted what the NBA had too, so it scheduled games on Christmas. Because the NFL is more popular, or in this analogy; swole like Deebo, they seemingly took what had been the NBA’s premier regular season event and the ratings that came with it by simply scheduling games against it.

This year the NFL has apparently scheduled three games to be played on Jesus’ birthday. They decided to schedule games against the college football playoffs and announced all this news whilst the WNBA was launching the season because why shouldn’t they take some shine away from women’s athletics too.

I take comfort in knowing they are equal opportunity bullies.

I know I’ve been talking NFL, but did anyone else watch the Indiana Fever at Connecticut Sun game? Like most WNBA games, it had a lot tough and physical defense, good fundamentals, points in the paint, players holding each other accountable and tons of effort. I don’t understand why this isn’t the preferred form of basketball for everyone who says they miss the way the sport used to be played.
