Originally known for his eclectic style blending elements of hip hop, pop, and R&B music, Nigerian-American artist Shaboozey is making headway in the world of country music, too. His foray into country music showcases versatility and willingness to explore new musical territories.

His hit song, "A Bar Song (Tipsy,)" quickly ranked in the charts and eventually hit #1 on the Billboards, dethroning Beyonce's "Texas Hold Em'." With hits like these, Shaboozey and his collaborators, including the legendary Beyonce, have achieved unprecedented success on the country charts, breaking barriers and captivating audiences with their infectious melodies. Their back-to-back chart-topping singles not only showcase the artist's talent and diversity but also highlight the genre's broad appeal and ability to resonate with listeners from all walks of life.

There is much controversy surrounding the crossover artists revolving around the intersection of race, genre, and traditional boundaries of country music. When "Texas Hold Em'" and "A Bar Song" first soared to the top of the country charts, they sparked debates about what truly defines country music. Critics argue that Shaboozey, as a black artist with a background in hip hop, doesn't fit the mold of traditional country artists and country music. They question whether their songs truly belong on the country charts or if they are simply exploiting the genre for commercial gain.

On the other hand, supporters of Beyoncé and Shaboozey alike argue that country music is evolving and becoming more inclusive. They believe that the genre should be open to artists from diverse backgrounds who bring fresh perspectives and new sounds to the table. They point to the success of "Texas Hold 'Em" and "A Bar Song" as evidence that audiences are embracing this evolution and that the country charts should reflect the changing landscape of the genre. Challenging industry norms and pushing boundaries in the process, these artists are still making history.

As fans of country music, Shaboozey may have been unfamiliar to us until his crossover, but he has been out and about in the music world for a few years now. In 2014, Shaboozey introduced his inaugural single, "Jeff Gordon." His talent caught the eye of Republic Records in 2017, where he signed before releasing his debut studio album, "Lady Wrangler." Following this success, Shaboozey launched his second studio album, "Cowboys Live Forever, Outlaws Never Die," in October 2022 under the Empire label. Now, he anticipates the release of his third studio album, "Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going," slated for May 31, 2024. He will headline shows across the United States and is planning an opening act role for Jessie Murph on tour.

As an anthem to the said 'modern cowboy,' he is making big moves in the music world today.  As Shaboozey continues to make waves in the country music scene, fans can expect more groundbreaking collaborations and boundary-pushing tracks that blur the lines between genres. Whether he's crooning about life on the road or spinning tales of love and heartache, Shaboozey's country crossover is sure to leave a lasting impression on the genre and solidify his place as a trailblazer in the industry.
