Memorial Weekend is here and there's no doubt will be visible and active over the next few days. A law in South Carolina passed last year has just taken effect to make it harder for offenders to drive under the influence.

The All Offender Law took effect last week and it requires anyone convicted of felony DUI to have an Interlock Ignition Device installed in their vehicle and they must get an I.I.D license. The vehicle will only start after the driver passes a breathalyzer installed in the vehicle.

This comes after South Carolina had over 5,300 alcohol and drug related crashes with more than 365 deaths in 2023. Data from Mothers Against Drunk Driving says that South Carolina ranked 5th worst in the nation for the most DUI related deaths in 2022.

Over the holiday weekend people are encouraged to use a ride sharing service if they are going to drink. Motorists are reminded to drive sober or get pulled over.
