The Chicago White Sox fell flat in their sixth consecutive loss on Memorial Day afternoon. Nick Nastrini bounced back with a decent outing against the Toronto Blue Jays, who tagged him for seven runs in his prior start. Toronto starter Chris Bassitt, who held the White Sox scoreless in his previous outing, did so again over five innings. Monday's win snapped the Jays' three-game losing streak.

Nastrini surrendered three runs on three hits in five innings of work. He fanned five and issued four free passes. The rookie's two-out walk to Daulton Varso in the second frame set up George Springer's two-run shot to open the scoring. Bo Bichette extended Toronto's lead to three with a solo homer off Nastrini in the fourth.

Jared Shuster relieved Nastrini in the sixth and tossed three shutout innings , allowing one hit and two walks.

    Eight Singles

Despite 10 hits, the White Sox only mustered one run. The South Siders loaded the bases on three singles in the first inning. Paul DeJong flew out to right field to end the potential rally. The White Sox went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position, stranding 11 runners on base. Andrew Benintendi, Gavin Sheets, and Corey Julks accounted for seven of Chicago's 10 hits.

Sheets delivered the only White Sox' run of the afternoon with an eighth-inning solo shot to right field.

The homer cut the deficit to one run until the ninth inning when Davis Schneider belted a two-run homer off reliever John Brebbia with two outs.

    News and Notes

Manager Pedro Grifol doubled down on his comments about the team being "flat" in Sunday's loss to Baltimore.

Monday's loss dropped the White Sox to 15-40, marking their worst 55-game start in franchise history.
