If all goes to plan and everyone checks their email, there could be one more chance to catch metal pioneers Black Sabbath before the band officially disappears into the void.

Speaking this week with host Eddie Trunk , 74-year-old Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler echoed frontman Ozzy Osbourne ’s wish to get the band back together with original drummer Bill Ward for one final run, saying, "Of course there's an interest -- but there's a big 'but.' You'd have to speak to Bill about it."

"Everybody wants to do it,” he added, however, he was unsure if 76-year-old Ward -- who backed out of the band's past reunions over contract disputes -- would be "capable" of getting behind the idea.

Butler says he and Ozzy have “agreed” to play one last show. “I’m definitely up for it, to finish the whole thing off. Me and Ozzy have agreed, but I’m not sure about anybody else.” For his part, guitarist Tony Iommi , also 76-years-old, recently said of a potential reunion, “That’d be a nice thing to actually do, but whether it happens will be another thing.” He continued, “I have to look at it realistically at my age. I can’t go out and do a two-year tour like we were doing before. And to put something together like the original Sabbath or this or that or the other, you’ve gotta do it a long time because of the cost of everything. But we’ll see. I mean, who knows?”

Ozzy, now 75-years-old and currently recovering from a series of health issues, believes there is still “unfinished” business that Sabbath needs to attend to before officially calling it quits. “It wasn’t Black Sabbath that finished it. It’s unfinished. If they wanted to do one more gig with Bill, I would jump at the chance,” he told host Billy Morrison earlier this month. “Do you know what would be cool? If we went to a club or somewhere unannounced and we just got up and did it. We started up in a club.”

Geezer says he and Ozzy have been speaking again “every day practically,” admitting there was “a lot of miscommunication,” between them previously. “He didn’t think I was asking about his health ’cause I know he’s been going through a lot of health problems, and I was sending all these messages to him and they weren’t being passed on to him. So he thought I was just ignoring him.” He went on to reveal “the weird way I had to go through Sabbath’s accountant to tell Ozzy I’d sent him all these things. ‘Cause he did this thing in Rolling Stone saying that I hadn’t been in touch with him about his health. So I went through the accountant, and he got in touch with Ozzy and said, ‘He’s just been sending you stuff. He wants to talk to you.’ And we’ve been fine since that.”

Butler says Ward, however, is “not on e-mail and I hate the phone. So, I send e-mails to his wife, who passes it on." In the meantime, he’s been practicing daily and keeping his chops warm just in case he eventually does get the call. "It's like part of me daily exercise,” he says. “I don't get down to the gym. I just go up to my studio.”

Ozzy Osbourne is set to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later this year as a solo artist, adding to his previous honors with Black Sabbath.
