"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." While he was onto something in the '80s, I don't know if Ferris Bueller's advice applies to 2024. Thanks to the non-stop deluge that is social media, life's now moving at warp speed—blink, and you're out of luck. That’s where Keep Your Clips Up—a weekly collection of the best videos in skiing—comes in.

May is behind us. The month saw a lot. Seasonal closures for most of the final North American hangers-on, more than one spring powder day, and, of course, clips. Some videos from our weekly selection are jaw-droppers, while others are more humble celebrations of the snowsports experience. Whichever you prefer, all options should help you reminisce on the winter that once was.

    Topher Gets Down at Timberline

Skiing’s changed a lot over the years. The skis we used were long—now they’re much shorter. Baggy hoodies have mostly been replaced by cinched down, trim-fitting technical outerwear. But for all this evolution, some skiers, like Christopher Newett, have found their niche and stuck with it over the years. Boasting a funky, unique bag of tricks, Newett’s known for looking at the terrain park a little differently. His latest upload, shot at Timberline, is another dose of what he does best, and an urgent reminder that I should probably drop what I’m doing and drive to Mt. Hood.

Valentin Rainer Takes a Nap (and Skis His Heart Out)

Sometimes, I fall asleep and dream that, inexplicably, I can ski like a professional. I charge around, float a few enormous tricks, and then, as always, wake up as the reality of the situation settles in: I was taking an afternoon nap—not laying down lines deserving of a Red Bull helmet. That’s the premise of Valentin Rainer’s latest video, with a minor difference. When Rainer wakes up from his nap, he’s still a professional skier capable of winning the Freeride World Tour.

A Peek Behind the Unrailistic Curtain

For all the polished fanfare of Red Bull’s goings-on—recaps, photos, and such—there’s regularly a dearth of content that captures what it was actually like to attend any given event. That’s changed a bit over the years, with the likes of YouTuber SteepSteep providing behind-the-scenes looks at various Red Bull happenings, but skiers are often left wanting for something a bit less spit-shined. Want no more. At this year’s Unrailistic competition, Niklas Eriksson brought along a camera to capture the athletes from a less formal angle. Henrik Harlaut offers some of his signature dog noises, creating the illusion that, for this video’s 13-minute run time, all is right in the world.

    Max Moffatt's Dual Sport Campaign

We all know at least one—that person who can’t help but be incredibly good at everything they try. You introduce them to your sport of choice, and—BAM!—next thing you know, they’re smoking you. Max Moffatt is probably one of those guys. His 2022-2023 season recap, which dropped this week, starts with what we’ve come to expect from Moffatt: top-tier park and street skiing. Then, about halfway through, he picks up a skateboard and starts making his best Mark Gonzales impression, and for someone who’s already a professional in one action sport, it’s far, far better than it has any right to be. Watch it for the skating. Watch it for the skiing. Either way, Moffatt’s Liquid Terrain is a treat.

    Buzzing Chairlifts and Quieter Moments

For most of us, skiing isn’t hucking triple flips or schlepping up the sides of frighteningly large mountains. Instead, we, you know, ride the chairlift. Eat overpriced chili in the lodge. And ski groomers. Or duck into the woods to find our favorite secret stash. Those humble little moments are sometimes easy to forget, but they’re what keep us coming back. This compilation of videos from snowboarder Ben Poechman celebrates this everydayness—the experience of riding chairlifts, to be specific—proving that what makes us smile isn’t so mundane after all.
