Green Bay Packers Linked To Veteran Cornerback as Trade Target

As the Green Bay Packers work through their offseason program, it is hard to find many weaknesses. General manager Brian Gutekunst has done a great job addressing the team’s needs this offseason, bolstering several positions.

However, one area that was surprisingly not addressed was cornerback. The only addition Green Bay made was seventh-round pick Kalen King in the 2024 NFL Draft. It is certainly a risk with the depth chart they currently have.

Jaire Alexander and Eric Stokes have had some injury concerns in recent seasons. Carrington Valentine is another seventh-round pick from the 2023 NFL Draft who will be in the mix along with King. Keisean Nixon is their current starter in the slot, as depth could be an issue.

To address that, the Packers could look to make an addition via the trade market. In the opinion of Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report, one player they could target is Philadelphia Eagles cornerback James Bradberry.

“One low-risk move would be to call up the Philadelphia Eagles and work out a deal to get James Bradberry. There’s no sugarcoating it, he was bad last season. He gave up 11 touchdowns and a passer rating of 114.3.

However, he’s still one season removed from giving up just two scores and a passer rating of 51.6. He put together a career year in his first season with the Eagles,” wrote Ballentine.

The asking price to acquire Bradberry would likely be a late-round pick or swap of future selections. The Eagles would be motivated to move on from his $1.2 million salary, which could even result in the Packers getting some assets attached to him.

The suggestion by Ballentine does make sense as the Eagles reshaped their cornerback depth this offseason. In the 2024 NFL Draft, they selected Quinyon Mitchell in the first round and Cooper DeJean in the second.

That is as good of an indication as any that Philadelphia is ready to move on from Bradberry. As Ballentine noted, he is only one season removed from a dominant campaign and would be a worthwhile low-risk move for the Green Bay Packers.
