The Commanders releasing Brandon McManus on Sunday evening is going to be the big news of the week in DC sports, and in discussing it on Monday’s show, JP Finlay revealed that he expected the Commanders to look into the allegations and act accordingly, even if it wasn't maybe expected to be so swift of a resolution.

“I got asked a lot about what I thought was gonna happen, and my thought all along was, maybe they'll try to get some more information on these allegations, and if the court cases or settlements or whatever has to happen does in a rapid manner, maybe he can survive this – but my thought was there's no way they're going to camp with this lingering over them,” JP said. “They decided they weren't even going back to OTAs with this lingering over him over them, and released McManus last night, sending out a press release at 7:49 p.m.”

McManus ‘has allegations from two flight attendants about a flight to London with some really illegal and poor behavior, obviously, should it all be true,’ but JP also thinks this case also shows the different treatment some players can get in troubling situations.

“We all know that there are players where, when there are allegations, people will be incredibly patient and dogged in their determination to see justice or to see the truth come out – and usually those are star players that play really important positions,” JP said. “You know why MLB ain’t pulling that thread on Shohei Ohtani? Because they don't wanna know! Deshaun Watson had a stunning amount of frequent complaints against him and Cleveland rode it out because he's supposed to be a star quarterback. But when you're the kicker, like, professional sports is about who can do what for the team.”

“Remember when Jimmy Johnson was asked about a person falling asleep and he said, ‘if he falls asleep, I'll cut his ass!” and he was asked ‘what if it’s Troy, Mike, or Emmitt,’ and he said, ‘I give him a pillow?’ BMitch asked. “That’s what life is. We could sit up here and want everybody to be treated exactly the same, but we understand that the people that provide more for us are treated a little better, given more patience and leeway. But, you also look at how these owners are handling things. I’m sure they had some people look into this, and if they felt like it was something that was could be true -- because we don't know and have to say allegedly at this point – but if they thought it was gonna be something that's close to being true, they have to make a move based off of that.”

And that’s why Brian wasn’t surprised.

“My whole thing the whole time was they said ‘we heard the information, we're looking into it,’ and when they did, they see what they need to see or what they didn't want to see,” Brian said. “They have to make their move and they did just that.”

“They identified McManus as their kicker, they clearly liked his ability on the field, and now they gotta find a new one – but if you're gonna cut your kicker and find a new one. now is the right time to do it,” JP replied. “And I don't think that this organization, that is pretty much completely brand new, should be dogged by what happened previously. I think there are enough people that will attach this to the past, but they’re all gone. I wonder if that also kind of expedited this, but either way, you can't be the kicker and have two counts of sexual assault alleged against you. Maybe you could be the quarterback, maybe you could be a star defensive end or something, but you can't be the kicker, man. It's that simple.”
