BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — LSU Baseball lost to the University of North Carolina, 4-3.

On Monday, the Tigers fell to the Tar Heels in a close game in the Chapel Hill Regional Final at Boshamer Stadium after 10 innings.

LSU trailed 2-0 after the first inning, but their pitching staff settled in behind senior Will Hellmers. The Metairie, Louisiana native threw 5.2 scoreless innings in relief and struck out four.

Slowly, the Tiger chipped away the lead. Josh Pearson grounded out to plate a runner in the first inning, and Jake Brown tied the game at 2 with a solo home run in the second. Jared Jones added a solo homer in the third to give LSU a 3-2 lead.

Jay Johnson brought in Gage Jump to close out the game in the ninth inning, but he surrendered a game-tying RBI single in the ninth inning. In the tenth inning, Jake Brown dropped a sharply hit fly ball and Jump later gave up another RBI single that proved to be the difference.

The Tar Heels will host West Virginia in the Chapel Hill Super Regional next week, while LSU’s season is now over.
