Perisher, Australia's largest ski resort, released a video to Instagram assessing conditions, and the snow looks sparse. However, their audience appreciated their "honest" self-criticism and transparency.

The caption explained that their Opening Day is this Saturday, June 8th. Perisher Mountain Manager Andrew Kennedy shared the operations update below.

Kennedy stated that due to the low snowfall and slow start to the season, "despite the best efforts of the grooming and snowmaking team, [the resort] does not think we will get the Village 8 chairlift open this weekend due to the lack of snow on the top half of the run."

Village 8 chair can be found on the map below, servicing terrain right from the Perisher Centre.

There is no snow in the immediate forecast, so Kennedy reported that the existing cover will likely stay the same.

The resort has received 5 cms in the past 24 hours, and has a natural depth of 0 cms.

However, just because there is a lack of natural snow does not mean there is nothing to do: the Peak Music Festival kicks off Friday, and the Mount Perisher Double Chair auction is on Saturday.

Guests who have pre-purchased lessons for the long weekend have been informed that they will be be contacted by the Perisher team. Officials at the resort have also advised guests with lift tickets and/or rentals who wish to discuss their options to reach out the Perisher team, and there is a link to do so in Perisher's instagram.

Guests likely appreciate the initiative to present an honest and no-frills report of the conditions and skiing and riding reality, despite those conditions being less than ideal.

Here's to doing a snow dance for Perisher, and for the fun activities guests can enjoy in the meantime.
