Stormy Wednesday provides heavy rainfall threat
By Joe Fitzwater,

Tonight features partly cloudy skies and a stray shower chance before midnight. We’ll see that risk dissipate quickly after dark. It’s another muggy night in store, with low temperatures in the low 60s.
Wednesday provides a better risk for scattered showers and thunderstorms than Tuesday, with our stalled frontal boundary still meandering to our north and a cold front approaching to the west. As a result, scattered storms will pop up, especially during the afternoon with locally heavy rainfall possible. Though our atmosphere has limited ‘juice’ for strong thunderstorms, a strong wind gust or two can’t be ruled out as well, with high temperatures in the upper 70s to right around 80 degrees.
Thursday keeps the risk for a few showers, with our cold front crossing during the morning hours. The afternoon will feature a northwest wind flow behind the front, which will slowly begin to cool us down. High temperatures on Thursday will once again be in the upper 70s to right around 80 degrees. Showers will be more prevalent in the morning, with only widely scattered showers by the afternoon.
Friday will be dry, with high pressure to our west nudging approaching showers from the northwest and keeping them to our north. We’ll see plenty of sunshine as a result but it’s a cool and comfy day overall with highs around 70. We should be in the mid 70s this time of year.
Saturday features mostly sunny skies with high pressure nearly overhead but with a light and variable breeze expected, temperatures won’t jump too much, as we remain below average with high temperatures in the low 70s. A stray mountain shower up in Pocahontas County can’t be ruled out with a boundary nearby but we’ll be dry elsewhere.
Sunday brings back the risk for a few showers, though this risk looks widely scattered at this point, with a weak cold front scooting toward the area with highs in the mid 70s.
Monday keeps the risk for a few scattered showers, with a trough passing by, with highs in the low 70s.
Tuesday continues our risk for showers with a cold front and associated low pressure system moving up the Ohio River Valley. This will give us a good chance for showers, with highs near 70.
Looking ahead, in your extended forecast, another front Wednesday, which will provide chances for showers. High temperatures Wednesday will struggle to reach 70 with the clouds and showers. A few showers will be possible once again on Thursday with highs in the low 70s. The sunshine will return on Friday with highs in the mid 70s.
