FAYETTEVILLE (WVNS) – Fayette County Schools is taking advantage of summer break by working on more than 70 million dollars in building and maintenance projects.

A lot of money is being spent to revamp and reshape the Fayette County Schools system.

A few of these projects are projected to be finished soon while some are still in the blueprint phase.

The Meadow Bridge Regional Pre-K through 12 th grade school is still in the process of development with the elementary section still being built.

Tim Payton, Director of Operations for Fayette County Schools, said there were a few bumps in the road with development, but the future is looking bright.

“One of the first problems was starting a project in the middle of a pandemic. That caused it’s own unique problems. It caused some things to cost a little bit more. It caused some delays in materials. It’s been a little interesting, you know, trying to get that project completed. We are well on our way to getting it completed. Our plan is to be in the building by March of 2025,” said Payton.

Payton said this change is essential for student life.

“We have two football fields that we are converting to multiuse fields. Football, soccer, band, and cheerleading as well. There will be opportunities to use these for other things as well. Those two fields are at Midland Trail High School and Oak Hill High School. They also involve the renovation of the tracks that circle those fields,” said Payton to 59News.

Payton said he and the Fayette County Schools staff are excited for these changes.

Payton said the goal moving forward is to upkeep and maintain these facilities so they can try to avoid running into problems they have had in the past.
