Luxury cars aren’t only luxurious when it comes to their features, performance, comfort and look. They also carry luxurious price tags that can stretch well into six figures. The high costs don’t stop when you drive the car off the lot, either. Many luxury cars are expensive to repair and maintain — so much so that you could end up paying more to maintain them over time than you would for the full price of a cheaper car .

The CarEdge website recently ran the numbers on the most expensive luxury cars to maintain. After analyzing more than 100 vehicles (yes, there apparently are that many), the site found that you can expect to pay more than $2,000 a year in maintenance for the most expensive models.

As CarEdge pointed out, you are not likely to learn much about repair and maintenance costs when you buy a car because the salesperson doesn’t want you to focus on those “unpleasant but inevitable” costs. Unless you do your research ahead of time, you could be taken off guard by the high repair and maintenance costs. At some point you might have to decide whether to keep paying those costs or simply sell the car.

The good news is, luxury cars tend to hold their value better than other types of cars. This means you should get a good price on a resale — especially for certain Lexus, Acura, Tesla, Mercedes and Porsche models.
