Jesse Malin has been a mainstay in the Punk and Rock scenes for decades, having begun his career in various hardcore bands before finding success in the '90s as the lead vocalist and guitarist of D Generation , and ultimately, a solo act. In time, the rocker developed his sound and style into that of a true singer/songwriter. In fact, American Songwriter cited Malin as, “a rocker with a folksinger’s soul, or perhaps a folkie with a rocker’s spirit.”

In May of last year, the 56-year-old Malin suddenly suffered an extremely rare stroke in his spine. “Everybody was standing above me like in Rosemary’s Baby ,” Malin told Rolling Stone of the experience, “and I was there not knowing what was going on with my body.” The stroke left him paralyzed from the waist down, without warning. In response, Malin left the limelight to pursue physical therapy in Buenos Aires, Argentina and has made progress overall, but his music fell to the wayside in the process. Now, some major players are coming in to help.

The album Silver Patron Saints: The Songs of Jesse Malin has been announced as a tribute to show that Malin and his music is alive, well, and well-loved. It features a laundry list of rock and rollers, from his past collaborators Bruce Springsteen and Green Day 's Billie Joe Armstrong to Elvis Costello , Queens of the Stone Age ’s Josh Homme , Rage Against the Machine ’s Tom Morello , Counting Crows , and more. “As always in my songs, the themes are all there—transcendence, positivity and global unity through music,” Malin said in a press release. “This is what I love to do, and I’m going to do everything I can to keep doing it.”

From what we can tell so far, the tribute album will be a great continuation of the positive mental attitude Malin brings. The album’s first single, a cover of song “Prisoners of Paradise” by Bleachers , was released just yesterday via and is already receiving an immense amount of love. “A fantastic version of a great song” commented one fan, while another mentioned it, “belongs in a movie and feels like NYC!”

You can listen to the Bleachers take on “Prisoners of Paradise” here , and be sure to check out the vinyl album pre-sale on Jesse Malin’s official website. All proceeds from the album will go to Malin’s Sweet Relief musician’s fund in support of his ongoing medical journey.
