    Junteenth Parade and Festval

    June 8

    The Kennard Alumni Association will be hosting QAC’s annual “Juneteenth” Celebration with a parade starting at 10 a.m. leaving from QAC High School and continuing with the Festival at Kennard until 4 p.m. Karen Sommerville’s “Sombarkin” A Cappella Trio will lead a slate of African American artists who will perform at the Kennard African American Cultural Heritage Center and Museum at 410 Little Kidwell Ave. in Centreville. This will be a free community festival where artists will display their crafts and exhibits and vendors will provide information and offer their wares for sale. Food trucks and drink will be available. We are asking the community to bring donations of books, periodicals, videos about/by African Americans for our “AA History Resource Library”.     Horticulture Specialty Flower Show

    Kent Island Garden Club’s “Books in Bloom” will be open to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Kent Island Library. Categories of display will be annuals, perennials, herbs, trees and shrubs with two educational exhibits on recycling.

    Radio Club Field Day

    June 22-23

    The Queen Anne’s Amateur Radio Club will open their doors to the public setting up temporary transmitting stations at Tuckahoe State Park in Queen Anne. June 22, 2 p.m. to sundown and June 23, sunrise to 2 p.m. The stations will be operating from the Youth Group Campsite Pavilion located off Cherry Lane (Lat:38.983381/Long:75.92911). Part of a continent-spanning annual event called Field Day, 40,000 amateur radio operators (or “hams”) throughout North America set up in public places to demonstrate ham radio’s science, skill, and community service.

    Jungle Journey VBS

    Grab your binoculars and secure your life preserver- The Great Jungle journey is about to begin! At VBS, you’ll enjoy games, snacks, and more as you set off on an epic cruise from Genesis to Revelation. Join us as we swing into fun! Island Alliance Church in Stevensville 9 a.m. to noon.     Independence Day Celebration

    July 4

    Chesapeake Heritage and Visitor Center grounds. Rain date Friday, July 5. Attendees are encouraged to bring their chairs or blankets and revel in the festivities leading up to the grand finale — a spectacular fireworks display illuminating the night sky. Parking opens at 5:30 p.m. Shuttle service starts at 6 p.m.. Family fun activities commence at 6 p.m. Fireworks display at 9:15 p.m. Food trucks will be on-site, offering treats for purchase. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own coolers. (Note: Alcohol is not permitted on county property.) Free family-friendly entertainment includes face painting, a photo booth, and bounce houses for children. Musical performance by Jason Morton & Chesapeake Sons.
