Braelon Allen Among 3 Big Winners as Jets Move Toward Minicamp

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - The New York Jets are ready to take the next step from voluntary workouts to the next-level sessions - and there are plenty of positive takeaways heading into mandatory minicamp slated for July 11 and 12.

Whether it's having their four-time NFL MVP returning to the field at 100%, seeing some of their free-agent newcomers on the field, or keeping everyone healthy, the Jets should feel pleased about some of their biggest winners of the last month.

It's important to note that breaking down who looked good and bad in shorts will not end up mattering once mandatory minicamp and training camp are actually on the schedule.

Without further ado, let's go over the biggest winners of the last few weeks.

    Xavier Gipson

There hasn't been a bigger winner during OTAs than Xavier Gipson. The former undrafted free agent has consistently won his battles from the slot and shown some major improvements on the receiving end. The Jets know that they have a great special teams player in Gipson, but if he continues to develop into a receiver that New York can play right away, it will change New York's entire receiver trajectory.

    Eric Watts

Speaking of undrafted free agents, the current group is standing out as well. The best of all of them has been Connecticut pass rusher Eric Watts. The 23-year-old has impressed with his blend of size and speed and consistently won one-on-one matchups throughout the month.

As no UDFA's role is guaranteed at any point, Watts has done a good job of putting his best foot forward.

    Braelon Allen

You can take your pick between Isaiah Davis and Braelon Allen, but Allen's ability on the receiving end has stood out just a little bit more. New York's fourth-round pick has looked strong as a runner, pass protector, and receiver over the last month. Should he continue to develop and stand out in major ways, Allen could certainly compete for plenty of carries and playtime this season.
