Avalanche have intriguing target from Penguins

The Colorado Avalanche have some decisions to make this offseason. While they do not have the most cap space in the world, they can still make affordable signings to improve their depth.

One specific area where the Avalanche could look to upgrade is their goaltending. Alexander Georgiev was relied upon heavily this season, appearing in 63 games. Justus Annunen was solid when called upon, but it would not hurt the Avalanche to have an experienced goalie under contract as well.

Because of this, Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic is a free agent they should consider targeting this offseason.

Nedeljkovic, 28, quietly had a solid season in 2023-24. In 38 games, he posted an 18-7-7 record, a 2.97 GAA, and a .902 SV%. His strong play allowed him to become the Penguins' starter during the final stretch of the year. In the last two months of the year, he made 19 appearances. Tristan Jarry, on the other hand, made just one appearance in April.

After a solid year with the Penguins, it is clear that he would be a nice backup for the Avalanche. He has shown that he can handle having a lot of starts, and it would be beneficial to lower Georgiev's workload just a bit.

In 141 career games split between the Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, and Penguins, Nedeljkovic has a 60-45-22 record, .906 SV%, and a 2.96 GAA.
