Prince Harry Might Be Looking for UK Real Estate Despite King Charles III's Recent Snub

Prince Harry is happily living in Montecito, California with Meghan Markle, but it’s not unreasonable to think that he misses his U.K. home from time to time. That’s why one royal expert is hinting that the Duke of Sussex is looking for a residence to allow him to plant roots in England , even though his feud with King Charles III and Prince William still lingers.

Tom Quinn, author of Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir from Queen Mary to Meghan Markle , explained to the Mirror that “Harry misses some aspects of his old life in the UK.” The royal expert believes that a bit of homesickness is fueling his interest in buying a U.K. house now that Frogmore Cottage is no longer available to him and Meghan. “Inevitably, the honeymoon period where everything in the States is new and exciting is coming to an end and Harry is looking back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles,” he claimed.

WINDSOR, UNITED KINGDOM – APRIL 10: A general view of the exterior of Frogmore Cottage as people lay floral tributes to Prince Philip, Duke Of Edinburgh who died at age 99, nearby on April 10, 2021 in Windsor, United Kingdom.

Quinn also noted that the Duke of Sussex’s search for a “permanent home” is “partly why he’s continuing his legal action” surrounding security when he’s in town. After the couple exited the royal family in 2020, Prince Harry reflected on his time at Frogmore Cottage with Meghan — it was a place where they truly felt safe and comfortable. “Once upon a time, this was going to be my forever home. Instead, it had proved to be just another brief stop,” he wrote in his 2023 memoir, Spare.

Despite the ongoing rift, it’s understandable that Harry and Meghan would want their two children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, to feel a part of the British culture. OK! magazine reported in October 2023 that the search had begun, but the Duchess of Sussex was somewhat reluctant to return to a country that hadn’t treated her so kindly. “If they don’t have a base here, Harry’s children are going to grow up not knowing their cousins, uncles or aunts, or any of their family,” royal expert Duncan Larcombe told the media outlet. “They’re growing up fast, and his father isn’t getting any younger. I think he would want to do this before it’s too late.”

A U.K. home wouldn’t be their main residence, it would be a place to land for any of their European visits tied to Harry’s successful Invictus Games, and allow them to spend time with Princess Eugenie, whom they are close to. It’s a big commitment for the duo, but a U.K. property probably won’t happen until the security issues are finally nailed down.
