Arapahoe Basin's 'Lake Reveal' Emerges for Final Weekends of Season
By Matt Lorelli,
2024-06-10
Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, Colorado is one of only two ski areas still open in the United States, but it feels like the party is just getting started.
One of Arapahoe Basin's most charming spring/summer features, known as Lake Reveal, has recently emerged to add to the fun. Check out the images below of skiers taking their first skims across Lake Reveal on Friday, June 7th, 2024.

The iconic high-altitude ski area was open this past weekend, June 7-9, 2024 and will reopen June 14-16 for one final weekend of skiing and riding.
Lake Reveal is aptly named due to its tendency to reveal itself as snow melts on the Dercum's Gulch trail. Skimming across it is a right-of-passage for late-spring/summer skiers at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area.
Last weekend provided the first glimpses of Lake Reveal, as seen in the photos above, but skiers should expect the lake's surface area to gradually increase throughout the week as snow continues to melt.
How big will it be for closing weekend June 14-16? That remains to be seen.
Watch below as skiers Faith Stanton and Chloe Hehir take their first rides across the fledgling waters of Lake Reveal on Friday, June 7th, 2024.
Most ski resorts would rope off the growing pool of water to prevent injuries and potential lawsuits, but Lake Reveal is one of a seemingly-never-ending cast of characters that gives Arapahoe Basin's its legendary vibe .
Some skiers expressed concerns about that vibe changing when it was announced that Alterra Mountain Company , the purveyors of the Ikon Pass, are working to purchase the ski area.
Alterra is one of the largest ski resort holding companies in the world, and some fear its acquisition of Arapahoe Basin will mark the end of the quirky traditions that make the ski area special.

It's important to note, however, that very few details about future operating plans have been released by Arapahoe Basin and Alterra Mountain Company thus far. All fears and claims are purely speculation at this point.
