Golden Retriever Puppy Brings 'Peace Offering' to the Cat in Moment of Pure Sweetness

If you've ever spent time around a Golden Retriever, you know they're among the most loyal and lovable dog breeds around. Even as wee little pups with big personalities, they seem to have a way of turning even the most skeptical companions into lifelong friends.

Such is the case with a good boy named Otis who desperately wants to befriend the family Tabby cat. His plan? Bring a gift to the potential afternoon playmate and wait for a reaction. Watch this May 28 TikTok video to see if Otis succeeds.

In this adorable caught-on-camera moment, 7-month-old Otis proudly struts up to his stoic feline companion and offers a feather stick toy to politely "ask" if they could play together. Though the cat doesn't seem to react right away, Otis and his wagging tail patiently lay with the toy to see if his kind gesture worked (we hope it did).

"I think God made Golden Retrievers so that there would be little golden angels all around us in disguise," one viewer commented. "This is the cutest thing I have ever seen," another remarked. A different viewer added, "When he lays his little sweet face on the floor I lost it. Cat, you better treat Otis right!!!"

Some noted Otis's behavior is in fact exactly what the cat wanted. "I'd say the cat training him is going well. This is such an adorable video," one viewer stated. "That cat basically said 'I didn’t ask for that,'" another added.

Why Do Golden Retrievers Bring Gifts?

Otis's peace offering is one example of why Retrievers and other low maintenance dog breeds are so beloved. However, this is one "working" breed that gives gifts for a few reasons. According to Elle Vet Sciences , retrieving and gifting is used to show affection and respect to a potential pack leader, because they're excited, or as a way of asking to play.

In this case, Otis checks all three. Plus, with retrieving as one of his strongest instincts, bringing a toy to his cat friend may have been Otis's way of showing how well he can do his job. If only the cat would express gratitude or exchange in play, this playful and happy pup might feel like he accomplished what he set out to do. Either way, he's a good boy for trying to impress anyone with his skills.

While he may not make friends with everyone he meets, this little pup with the big heart proves that it never hurts to bring a gift if you want to win someone over.
