The name Gael was given to a total of 3,616 baby boys in the US last year. what many parents might not realize is that the meaning of Gael is "Irishman".

This is one interpretation of the name. Others include "a member of the Gaelic race".

Variations of the name Gael, which are also popular around the world, include Gayle and Gale. It comes from the Gaelic word Gaidheal which was used to describe strangers or foreigners.

Other names of Irish origin that appeared in the top 100 names for boys born in the US last year include Ryan and Rowan. Meanwhile, some Irish names proved popular for girls as well.
