Four Harris Co. JROTC cadets recognized for leadership

HAMILTON, Ga. (WRBL) — The summer has arrived and while some students spend their summers at the beach, others are spending it honing their skills as leaders.

Olivia Connelly, Caroline Ruiz-Hernandez, Zachery Williams, and Ashton Boyd all received awards for their leadership during Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) Cadet Leadership Camp (JCLC).

The JCLC is a leadership camp hosted by Columbus State University (CSU), with daily training being held on Fort Moore. The camp is designed to give students a taste of life in college and the army, according to the Harris County School District (HCSD).

The camp took place from June 2 to June 7 where the JROTC cadets underwent rigorous training such as rappelling down a 40-foot tower and participating in Combat Water Survival Training (CWST) designed to help overcome any fear of water and swimming.

LTC Feret, the HCHS senior Army instructor said he is extremely proud of the cadets, and he believes, “They executed flawlessly at camp, bringing great credit to our school and our JROTC program. They will undoubtedly share the knowledge and experiences they gained at JCLC with their peers.”
