Ready for summer? After cooler Tuesday, the heat is on for the rest of the week

Tuesday is a cool day on the way with a northwest breeze ushering in cooler air into the region – if you are a fan of the cool air, enjoy this while it lasts, as temperatures will be soaring later in the week! High temperatures Tuesday will be right around 70 degrees under mostly sunny skies, which is a few degrees below average for this time of year. Temperatures overnight will once again drop to around 50 overnight.

Wednesday starts to see that aforementioned temperature climb take place, as our wind begins to shift from coming out of the northwest to the west, where warmer air lies. As a result, under mostly sunny skies once again, we will see high temperatures soar about ten degrees into the upper 70s. Humidity values will remain low, which will allow a cool overnight still with low temperatures in the mid 50s.

Thursday really sees the heat begin to crank, as high pressure shifts off to our east and we pick up a southerly wind flow. This will allow temperatures to climb into the mid 80s under mostly sunny skies. Our western towns will make a run at 90 degrees, and this will be commonplace over the next several days.

Friday sees a weak front approach late in the day, which could provide a scattered shower or storm. Otherwise, it’s a hot and humid day on the way with high temperatures in the mid 80s. Heat index values will approach 90 degrees in many areas, especially in our western counties where air temperatures will likely exceed 90 degrees.

Saturday will see our temperatures drop slightly and our humidity values drop as high pressure moves in from Canada to our north. This will temporarily provide a little comfort from the heat and give us a lot of sunshine, as high temperatures drop to the low to mid 80s. However, we will still be in a very warm air mass and as high pressure shifts east for the second half of the weekend, the true West Virginia summer feel will take effect as our humidity returns.

Father’s Day looks dry with plenty of sunshine, but as mentioned above, high pressure will shift to our northeast and that will usher in more heat and humidity, as high temperatures in the upper 80s will be commonplace. Once again, our western towns should have no issues reaching 90 degrees, with area-wide heat index values eclipsing 90 degrees being a good bet outside of the high mountain country.

Monday provides the risk for a couple of scattered afternoon showers and storms with a frontal boundary draped nearby to our south, plenty of heat and humidity, with high temperatures in the upper 80s once again.

Looking ahead in your extended forecast, our pattern will become a little more unsettled, with a frontal boundary remaining close by down to our south, prompting scattered showers and storms in the afternoon, especially on Wednesday and Thursday, with isolated chances Tuesday. This storm threat will keep our temperatures down a few degrees into the low to mid 80s, but that summertime heat and humidity feel looks to be sticking around for a while!
