During its World Wide Developers Conference on Monday, Apple announced its brand new “Apple Intelligence,” which will be featured on several of its products.

The new AI tool from Apple is just the latest from the tech world, which has been scrambling since the launch and success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

However, Apple isn’t rushing to be first in this case, so while users got a taste of the new AI, they will have to wait until later this year to get their hands on it.

Apple also isn’t shying away from the success of ChatGPT, as the company shared its AI will offer users GPT-4o access that lets Siri turn to OpenAI’s chatbot when it can’t handle what you ask it.

During WWDC 2024, Apple shared several features that Apple Intelligence will offer iPhone and Mac users, including a more conversational Siri, AI-generated “Genmoji,” the ability to carry out actions between apps, manage notifications, summarize text, and offer other AI writing tool features.

“You control when ChatGPT is used and will be asked before any of your information is shared. Anyone can access ChatGPT for free without creating an account. ChatGPT subscribers can connect accounts to access paid features within these experiences,” Apple’s announcement page shared .

One of the biggest features of Apple’s AI is its ability to work in more than just Apple’s apps, stepping away from its usual “closed-circuit” approach, something that has long been a point of contention among users.

Among the more practical things that users can do include having the AI do things in one app referenced in another.

For example, if someone texts you a link to a YouTube video, the user would be able to ask it to play the video that was sent in your messages app and know what you are talking about

Apple says that Siri will have an “onscreen awareness,” meaning it will understand what a user is asking so it can “take action with users’ content in more apps over time.”

Users will also have a new way to communicate with Siri, as typing to the virtual assistant will become an option instead of speaking.
