Frenzy Over Trader Joe's Mini Cooler Bags Reaches New Level of Wild

The grocery chain is known for inspiring Internet trends of all kinds, but this latest one has people reselling this accessory at a premium that even Stanley cups didn't manage. We can't believe some people are buying these at that price!

On June 4, the specialty grocer released its Mini Insulated Tote Bags and they immediately went viral.

The new, limited-time coolers feature insulated walls, a zipper top, two reinforced handles, and they each have a 1.5 gallon capacity. They retail for just $3.99 each and come in two colors.

“With their vivid, summer-y shades of bright Magenta and mellow Teal, we find that they’re especially great for toting cold appetizers or chilled six-packs to the beach, a pool party, or a barbeque,” the product description page reads. “That said, they’re also perfectly sized for everyday use, like as a lunchbox for school or work.

In the description, Trader Joe’s warned its customers what was to come- “consider yourself fairly warned: these Totes are totally destined to become the next craze!”

They called it! Less than a week after the release, fans have reported long lines and sold-out stores for these bags.

Some people have taken to social media to say that their local stores sold out in less than two hours, and others claim they've seen people lining up to get their hands on one several hours before the stores open.

That's some dedication! It also reminds us of the Starbucks Stanley cup fiasco .

Some people reported that their stores limited the number that people could buy in an attempt to keep down the chaos. It didn't help much.

As for the lucky few who did get a mini cooler bag? They love them!

Now, some of those people are reselling these bags at a huge markup. A few social media users reported seeing them on websites for $100 or more. For example, one Mercari seller is asking for $250 for two of the mini coolers.

Trader Joe's Know Trends

This isn't the retail chain's first craze. Previously, its Mini Canvas Totes were so popular the stores had people lined up waiting for them to be restocked.

Just like now, the stores placed a limit of two per customer and when they sold out, some savvy shoppers began reselling them online for $1,000 on sites like eBay .

If you didn't get one of these cute mini coolers, don't despair just yet! Trader Joe’s revealed to TODAY.com that another batch of them will be available later this summer.
