    Traffic moving again after tractor-trailer fire on West Virginia Turnpike

    UPDATE: (5:18 P.M. Tuesday, June 11) – Crews on scene say a lane of I-77N is still closed while crews work to clean up the scene of a tractor-trailer fire on the West Virginia Turnpike.

    UPDATE: (4:28 P.M. Tuesday, June 11) – Kanawha County Metro 911 says all lanes of traffic have reopened after a tractor-trailer fire on the West Virginia Turnpike.

    Dispatchers say no injuries were reported.


    KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – A portion of the West Virginia Turnpike is shut down in Kanawha County due to a tractor-trailer fire.

    According to Kanawha County Metro 911, the tractor-trailer is on fire near the 87 mile marker on I-77 North, just north of Chelyan. The call first came in shortly after 3:25 p.m.

    There is no word yet if anyone is injured or what caused the fire. Dispatchers say they have not been made aware of any possible crash.

    The Chesapeake and East Bank volunteer fire departments, Kanawha County Emergency Management and the West Virginia State Police are responding.

    This is a developing story, and WOWK 13 News has a crew heading to the scene.
