    Tremont naturalist week

    By Staff Report,

    2024-06-12

Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont will host its Naturalist Week from June 17-21.

This free, virtual event is “designed to connect people with nature from wherever they are,” the press release read.

Tremont is challenging both children and adults to explore nature around them, whether it’s a park, green space or their own backyard.

The week also feature’s Tremont’s Level Up Challenge, in which participants can earn points by spending time outdoors participating in activities like eating outside, following an insect or camping in their backyard. Every activity earns points which can be redeemed for a prize and they will be entered into a drawing for a “custom Tremont experience.”

On Thursday, July 20, as part of the naturalist week, Tremont will host The Big Day. The challenge to participants is to document as many species as possible and post their findings on Tremont’s website or social media. For each post, a dollar will be donated to Tremont.

The event will end with a family-friendly happy hour from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 21 at Yee-Haw Brewing Company in Knoxville.

Those interested in participating can visit Tremont’s website, gsmit.org, to learn more.
