After a spate of headlines in April, Jon Bon Jovi has emphatically pushed back against alleged infidelity or trouble within his marriage to Dorthea Hurley, to whom he's been married since 1989 . The “Livin’ on a Prayer” singer spoke with Marc Malkin on Variety’ s Just for Variety podcast , recorded on April 30th of this year.

That month, Bon Jovi was on a memorable publicity run for his Hulu docuseries, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story . In an interview with The Independent published on April 21, he revealed that he hasn’t always been a “saint” throughout his and high-school sweetheart Hurley’s marriage.

"These are all the wonderful clichés of rock stardom," he told the outlet. "It’s about never lying about having been a saint, but not being a fool enough to f--k up the home life, either."

On April 25, Hurley was conspicuously absent from a public screening of Thank You, Goodnight . And then, on April 29, Bon Jovi doubled down on his infidelity talk during a pre-recorded interview with Michael Strahan for ABC and Hulu’s Halfway There special.

"I got away with murder," Bon Jovi responded when Strahan asked if the culture was hard on his relationship. "I’m a rock and roll star. I’m not a saint. You know, I'm not saying that there weren’t 100 girls in my life. I’m Jon Bon Jovi. It was pretty good."

But while speaking to Malkin, Bon Jovi cleared the air over perceived difficulties in his and Hurley’s union.

“It was based in an old article many years ago. It would be a lie if you said you were a saint,” Bon Jovi said, seemingly forgetting that he reiterated the “saint” remarks just days before the Variety interview took place.

“It was the ‘80s for gods sake. Did a girl ever throw herself at me? F--k yes, I’m Jon Bon Jovi! But did I ever consider anything that would jepardize my relationship to my wife, who I’ve always been madly in love with? F--k no!"

Bon Jovi did admit, though that Hurley “would tell me, ‘Of course you were a moron’” back in the ‘80s. “But I would never…,” the singer trailed off, before announcing: “Yesterday (April 29) was our 35th wedding anniversary.”

“I’m ecstatic,” the musician said of his marriage. “We’re madly in love more every day. I’m ecstatic being in love with her…We’ve been together 44 [years]. I wouldn’t jeopardize a lick of that. I’m the most blessed guy in the universe.”

“The stories that are getting picked up, they make it sound like you cheated on her left and right,” Malkin pressed the singer.

“Even if I did,” Bon Jovi admitted, “I was 20, I was 30. This wasn’t yesterday. There’s never been any of these terrible stories of situations that have happened. It was a hedonistic decade or two in my youth.”

Bon Jovi said of his and Hurley’s enduring bond: “We don’t have to outdo things with presents and this and that, because every day there is just seriously deep gratitude. You know, watching TV together and sitting on the couch and making a cup of tea. She knows how grateful I am for everything.”
