Kate Winslet Remembers Why Co-Starring With Jack Black in 'The Holiday' Was 'Eternally Refreshing'

When we watched The Holiday for the first time, it’s safe to say we all had so many feelings. From wanting to stare into Jude Law’s piercing blue eyes, wanting a friend just like Arthur to look up to, or wanting to trade houses with someone from across the world, the movie surely pulled at our heartstrings.

So, of course, it’s no surprise that the actors making it had quite a memorable time filming it too. In a recent interview from Kate Winslet with Vanity Fair , she looked back at the 2006 rom-com, and couldn’t help but gush about her onscreen love interest, the hilarious Jack Black .

“Jack, of course, he just does something different every take which is eternally refreshing,” Winslet said of her co-star.

Winslet then explained that improv isn’t necessarily a given in a rom-com like theirs. “For something like this it was very, very good because with romantic comedy things do have to remain fairly scripted because so much of it is about the comedic timing and how it’s shot,” Winslet said. “The rhythm and the cadence to everything is quite important and so there wasn’t much room to sort of add things spontaneously, but Jack would always find a way to slip something in and I was always really grateful for that.”

“Jack was brilliant at kind of adding things and he was brilliant with those little girls,” she continued, referring to Law’s character Graham’s two young daughters. “It kept it fun, which is what it was meant to be.”

She then admitted that Black might be on the top of her list of co-stars to work with again. “I would love to work with Jack again and again and again,” she said. We’re hoping he’s listening!

In fact, the Mare of Easttown star admitted that Black’s effect on her was long-lasting, including the nickname he gave to her during filming. “My on-set nickname to this day is K-dub, people just call me K-dub, and he started it,” Winslet said of the School of Rock star.

Most of all, it seems Winslet had a blast with everyone on set, not just Black. “We all just had such a giggle, it was all just great fun, they’re all lovely people,” she said. “Cameron [Diaz]’s whole thing ever in life is how can I have the most fun possible? So she’s constantly laughing, she’s constantly joking,” Winslet remembered.

Knowing how much this movie meant to so many people, it’s so heartwarming to know how much they enjoyed making it. After all, that might’ve just been the secret to so much chemistry between them onscreen!
